Blog 2

I just read the short prose poem "A Story About the Body by Robert Hass and was rather struck by it. I was drawn in by the way that the author describes the connections between the young man and the older women. The young man was attracted to her paintings and the way she moved while creating them he also was captivated by "the amused and considered answers" she provided to his questions. When reading up to this point I thought nothing would be spoken of this attraction which was why I was surprised by the dialog which followed from the older women. I read this line twice because at first I did not know whether it was the man or the woman who first initiated. I thought that it was interesting to compare the mans withering radiance to music. It created a type of audio imagery in my mind trying to create a sound of music imagery. I was surprised when he turned the woman down because it sounded like his attraction for her went beyond just her physical body. I guess this is where the title of the work comes into play. I am not exactly what the roses covering the bowl of dead bees is meant to signify but it appears as though to her he seemed attractive as the roses were but once uncovered he was unpleasant such as the sight of the dead bees. I was very drawn in by this story and will continue to think about more possible meaning within it.
