Blah blah blah

I love e.e.cummings; I have always loved him. The way I interpreted this poem, since it was written after World War 1, was that it is about the death of soldiers and how we, the American people, go about our daily lives normally as they fight and die. It laments the loss of so many young lives as well as push against the idea that it is sweet to die for one’s country. I think this was a satirical way of looking at America, and through this poem we can see cummings’ personal view on war.

I also didn’t enjoy Blah-Blah. At least the other poem made some kind of sense. This just seems nonsensical and juvenile. I looked up reviews of this poem, and while there is a lot of critical acclaim for “Sleeping with the Dictionary”, almost all mention the fact that Blah-Blah is one of the weakest poems in the anthology.

See you all in class,
Jess Young
